Working with a generic shape, and reaching the goal of "new" is extremely fulfilling for a designer. Everything is in the detail, getting the curvature absolutely right. Playing with the compositions of materials, colours size and functionality and finally, at the end of the process, see it all unfold and come together in harmony. The series consists of vases, bowls and candleholders - 16 objects in glass, polished steel and plated gold.

"How about a wooden handle...?"

Often projects start out with simple questions, and this question quickly led to several others. The proces produced a thermos for coffee and one for tea. For the tea thermos we have designed a dedicated brewing filter with a mechanism to "turn off" the brewing process.

The thermoses has a double wall stainless steel inner liner and the body is made of painted steel with a wooden handle made from birch.

Most designers dream of cordless lamps, but as that dream is yet somewhere out in the distance we might as well play and have fun with the things we cannot change. So besides an elegant stem and a subtle vertical flow of light, the feature of the Shelter lamp is the connection between the cord and the lamp with a small brass fixture.
"Make a virtue of necessity" as the idiom goes...

I've always loved the way that porcelain disperse the light - it's like a small subtle sun in your room. The warm friendly glow reminds me of the how some things are really basic necessities to humans, things we cannot live without; a place to sit, tools to prepare and eat food with - and light. Without light we're a bit lost, especially here up north in the winter time. And so this lamp is a tribute to light.

How cool and how simple can it be done? That was the starting point in creating the Pure Black series. Drawing on inspiration from hunting knives and tapping into a boyish desire for a true wow-factor paved the way for an ultra simple design language paired with a matte black coating.

"Dear Mr. Fontana..." is a tribute to the Argentinean / Italian painter and sculptor Lucio Fontana (1899-1968) and his famous thesis "Concetto Spaziale" where cuts and punctures in mostly monochrome surfaces transforms the canvas into a three-dimensional sculpture and deliberately does away with the traditional painting. The homage to Fontana is a reflection of postwar- and 60's violent showdown with "existing". A revolt, which in many ways is the basis for much of modern Western culture. At the same time the tribute is also an admiration of, and perhaps even longing for, a time when the world could be moved and changed with a few simple tools. With its design in metal the table is partly an interpretation, partly a manifestation of Lucio Fontana's thoughts and visions of modernity.

A Sea saw - the engineers way...

The wooden logs are each fixed to a hydraulic press. The presses are interconnected 2 and 2 so that when you press one down, another goes up, but first off you don't know which one.
